Course Description

Course Description:

The Long Term Care Requirements for Participation were released in October 2016 with subsequent phase-in dates of November 2017 and November 2019.  The changes were intensive and included many new and revised codes of federal regulation with key principals being person-centered care, resident preferences care planning & staff training.  Of the 23 revised or new codes of federal regulations, 11 of them relate either directly or indirectly to care of residents with dementia, thus the updated rules are having significant impact on how dementia care is now being provided in facilities.

This session will focus on research-based strategies to assure compliance with these regulations, to include assuring person centered care and preferences despite the complexities of residents with dementia.  Participants will learn how key strategies can be effective per each of these eleven codes, with examples and recommendations for each regulatory area.  More than ever before, healthcare providers need to focus on individualized care, therapeutic approaches, root cause analysis of behaviors, and staff training to ensure requirements are met.
